Mid West Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Bill Headley: "I think it's fantastic and will add more certainty to the project. This is infrastructure we need to get under way so the mining sector can have some certainty for their exports. It will contribute enormously to the regional economy. It will require additional employees and new businesses will come to town as a result, particularly if the surrounding industrial estate gets up and running which I believe it will."
City of Geraldton-Greenough CEO Troy Brun: "The project is still not confirmed yet, but both levels of government have given their endorsement and clearly state that Oakajee is going to be an industrial and logistics hub for Australia. Now it's up to the industry - OPR and the mining sector - to come up the goods."
Chapman Valley Shire president John Collingwood: "We are thrilled that the Federal Government had confidence in the region and is putting money into infrastructure that could be there forever. Companies still have to chase funding for their projects and if the Federal Government is confident in the iron ore industry the miners and other components may gain more confidence as well. The Government also recognises that infrastructure like Oakajee has the ability to get Australia out of trouble."
Geraldton MLA Ian Blayney: "I welcome the commitment to joint funding with the State Government for the Oakajee Port project. The money is for the common user infrastructure and the approval shows the Federal Government is in agreement with the State Government that this should be publicly owned."
