MILLIONS of dollars in federal funding towards the Oakajee project has been enthusiastically welcomed by the Mid West Development Commission.
Commission CEO Steve Douglas said the project would provide a 'shot in the arm' for the local economy when the rest of the world was suffering during the financial crisis.
"The MWDC Infrastructure Group, chaired by Commission Board member Garry Collins, has expended considerable effort in supporting Oakajee's development," Mr Douglas said.
"The group is also strongly focussed on supporting the development of other key infrastructure required by the mines which would deliver the tonages necessary to underpin the Oakajee business case."
Mr Douglas also praised the Government for an announcement last week that a Mid West Planning Committee would be established, saying the Commission had advocated for one for some time.
